Compact business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14-inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need a lightweight Windows 10 Pro machine. It pairs an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 8GB of memory and a 256GB SSD for responsive everyday performance. The non-touch FHD display keeps the chassis thin and light at roughly 1.4kg.

Suits frequent travellers.

Business users who value portability, a full set of legacy ports and integrated graphics will find this configuration practical. Buyers who need discrete graphics, more than 8GB of RAM or a touchscreen should look at other models.

Quad-core i7-8650U with 4.2GHz turbo

The processor reaches a maximum turbo frequency of 4.20GHz across four cores, delivering strong single-thread speed for office applications. This clock ceiling is the key figure that determines whether the system meets your performance threshold.

Questions about this item

How quiet and cool does the Core i7-8650U stay during all-day workloads?

The quad-core 4.2 GHz turbo chip is cooled in a 1.4 kg chassis with vents along the hinge; fan noise rises under sustained load but remains office-tolerable.

Which cables and peripherals must I already own to use every port on this Latitude 7490?

Bring a USB-C power adapter, HDMI cable for external monitors, RJ-45 patch cord for wired LAN, and standard USB-A devices for the three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports.

Will my legacy USB-A dock and VGA projector work with the USB-C and HDMI outputs on this unit?

Yes — the USB-C port carries data and DisplayPort alt-mode for USB-A docks via adapter, and HDMI drives VGA projectors through a passive converter.
