Built for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and 8 MB of L2 cache. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB M.2 SATA solid-state drive. The non-touch display delivers 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution driven by Intel UHD Graphics 620. Windows 10 Home comes pre-installed with a Windows 11 Pro upgrade path available.

Suits users who need legacy port flexibility

This unit fits professionals who rely on Thunderbolt and HDMI outputs for docks or external monitors. The integrated graphics and U-series processor are not intended for buyers who need discrete GPU performance for rendering or gaming workloads. The 256 GB drive capacity may limit users who store large media libraries locally. The chassis is not a touchscreen or convertible form factor.

Deciding specification: Thunderbolt on a U-series

The presence of Thunderbolt on an 8th-generation quad-core U-processor determines whether this laptop can drive high-speed docks and external GPUs within its thermal envelope. Buyers who require that connectivity with this CPU class will find it here; those who need higher sustained graphics throughput should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 32 GB DDR4 version or look for a different capacity?

The laptop comes with 32 GB DDR4 already installed, so no capacity choice is needed at purchase.

What does the 1.9 GHz i7-8650U actually deliver in daily work?

The quad-core 1.9 GHz i7-8650U handles office multitasking and web workloads smoothly with 32 GB RAM.

How does the Thunderbolt 3 port limit the M.2 SATA SSD?

The M.2 SATA SSD runs on the SATA bus, so Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth does not restrict its speed.
