Business ultraportable for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7490 pairs an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD. A 14.0-inch FHD 1920 x 1080 non-touch display keeps the chassis compact for travel. Thunderbolt 3, HDMI and USB 3.0 ports handle docking and external displays.

Sustained workloads on integrated graphics

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and runs at modest clocks, so extended rendering or heavy multitasking will throttle once thermal limits are reached. The quad-core CPU maintains 1.9 GHz base speed with Turbo Boost up to 4.2 GHz for burst tasks, but prolonged loads settle at lower frequencies. Fan noise rises under continuous pressure.

128 GB M.2 SATA storage capacity

The single 128GB M.2 SATA SSD determines how many applications and local files fit without external drives. Users needing large media libraries, virtual machines or offline project archives will outgrow this capacity quickly. No second drive bay is mentioned, so expansion relies on Thunderbolt 3 or microSD.

What must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port on this Latitude 7490?

A Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock, plus any monitor, drive or peripheral that accepts a Thunderbolt 3 connection. The port also carries DisplayPort video and up to 100 W of power delivery.

Will my older HDMI monitor and USB 3.0 drives work with this Latitude 7490?
