Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It carries 32 GB of DDR4 memory, a 128 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD, and an NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory. The FHD IPS panel delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution with 72% color gamut coverage. Windows 11 Pro comes pre-installed for professional workflows.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that your existing peripherals can use the available ports: two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A connectors, one Thunderbolt 3 port and one HDMI 2.0 output. A headphone and microphone combo jack is also present. Confirm that your external displays accept an HDMI 2.0 signal or can be driven through the Thunderbolt 3 connection. The system ships with a Dell AC adapter; ensure the mains plug suits your region or obtain a suitable lead.

Upgrade perspective and value

This unit replaces an older mobile workstation that lacks a six-core i9 processor, dedicated Quadro graphics with GDDR5 memory, or a dual-drive configuration combining fast M.2 storage with a large 2 TB SSD. The jump is worthwhile when your current machine struggles with multi-threaded CAD, rendering or simulation tasks and you need Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth for high-speed docks or external GPUs. Buyers who require a touchscreen display or a higher refresh-rate panel should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What is included in the box and what must be purchased separately?

The laptop ships with a Dell AC adapter. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed. The 32 GB DDR4 memory, 128 GB M.2 drive and 2 TB SSD are already fitted. No other accessories are mentioned.

Which storage version should I choose between the 128 GB M.2 and the 2 TB SSD?

This unit already contains both drives: a 128 GB M.2 device plus a 2 TB SSD. There is no separate version to select; the dual-storage configuration is fixed.

What does the 4.80 GHz turbo figure mean once the i9-8950HK is inside the chassis?

The six-core processor runs at a 2.90 GHz base frequency and can reach 4.80 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost when thermal headroom allows. Sustained speeds depend on the dual-fan cooling system.
