Mobile workstation for CAD and 3D design

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 GPU with 6 GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and dual storage: a 128 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB NVMe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut and runs Windows 10 Pro.

Suits engineers and designers needing certified

This configuration suits professionals who rely on ISV-certified Quadro drivers for CAD, BIM or simulation workloads and want a large screen in a silver chassis. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or more than 16 GB of memory should consider other models. The system is not aimed at users seeking consumer-grade GeForce graphics or ultra-light portability.

Check Thunderbolt 3 and display connections before

Verify that your docks or external monitors support the single Thunderbolt 3 port and HDMI 2.0 output for multi-display setups. Confirm the 128 GB + 2 TB M.2 storage layout matches your partitioning needs, as the factory install uses two separate drives. Ensure your peripherals work with the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and the combo audio jack.

Questions about this item

Does this 17.3" Precision 7730 require an external monitor to use the Quadro P3200 6GB GDDR5 graphics?

No, the built-in 1920 x 1080 IPS panel is driven directly by the dedicated Quadro P3200, so the workstation runs graphics-intensive tasks without any extra display.

Can I keep using my existing USB 3.0 peripherals with the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and the Thunderbolt 3 port on this 7730?

Yes, both USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Thunderbolt 3 are backward compatible with USB 3.0 devices, so your current peripherals will work without adapters.

How can I verify the i7-8750H is hitting its 4.10 GHz turbo speed after I set up Windows 10 Pro?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, choose CPU and watch the live clock speed while running a heavy load; it should rise toward 4.10 GHz when thermal headroom allows.
