Mobile workstation for CAD and 3D modelling

The Dell Precision 7730 combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card carrying 6 GB GDDR5 memory. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 RAM and a 2 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD provide capacity for large assemblies and datasets. A 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 resolution covers 72 % colour gamut for accurate visual review.

Sustained performance under professional loads

The Quadro P3200 is optimised for computer-aided design workloads and delivers stable frame rates during extended rendering or simulation sessions. Six cores with Turbo Boost up to 4.10 GHz maintain multi-threaded throughput when all threads are active. The chassis thermal solution is engineered to manage continuous heat output from both CPU and GPU without throttling during long workstation tasks.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that your peripherals can connect through the available ports: two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, one Thunderbolt 3 Type-C, one HDMI 2.0 and a headphone/microphone combo jack. Confirm that Windows 10 Pro meets your software licensing and driver requirements. Ensure the 17.3 inch form factor fits your workspace and carrying equipment.

Questions about this item

How hot and loud does the Precision 7730 get when the i7-8750H and Quadro P3200 run at full load for hours?

The workstation uses Dell's revised thermal design with dual fans and heat pipes to move heat away from the six-core i7-8750H and the Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 GPU, keeping surface temperatures and fan noise lower than previous 17-inch mobile workstations during sustained CAD or rendering workloads.

Which cables and peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on this laptop?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the single Type-C port, an HDMI 2.0 cable for external 4K displays, and standard USB-A 3.0 or 3.1 cables for the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports; no proprietary adapters are required.

Will my older USB-A 3.0 drives, DisplayPort monitors and existing DDR4 SO-DIMMs work with the 7730 without extra adapters?

Yes — the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports are backward compatible with USB 3.0 devices, the HDMI 2.0 output can drive legacy DisplayPort screens via a passive cable, and the two SODIMM slots accept standard DDR4 modules up to 128 GB total.
