Mobile workstation for CAD and simulation

The Dell Precision 7730 pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card carrying 6 GB of GDDR5 memory. A 17.3-inch FHD IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 resolution covers 72% colour gamut for accurate visual review. 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD provide capacity for large assemblies and datasets. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Sustained performance under heavy workloads

The Quadro P3200 is optimised for computer-aided design and comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060 in raw throughput, while its certified drivers stabilise long rendering or simulation runs. Six cores running at 2.20 GHz with Turbo up to 4.10 GHz maintain multi-threaded compute without the throttling typical of thinner ultraportables. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 outputs drive external displays for extended desktop space during intensive sessions.

Upgrade path from entry mobile workstations

This configuration replaces dual-core or quad-core laptops that struggle with viewport navigation in SolidWorks, Revit or similar ISV-certified applications. The jump is worth it when 32 GB memory and 1 TB fast storage eliminate paging and project load delays. Buyers who need multiple GPU configurations or larger colour-volume panels should evaluate higher-tier Precision models.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Dell Precision 7730 get when the i7-8750H runs at 4.10 GHz all day?

The 7730 uses a vapour-chamber cooling system designed for sustained loads; fan noise rises under full Turbo but stays within workstation-class limits.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports on this 7730?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port and a standard HDMI 2.0 cable for the full-size HDMI output.

Will the Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 drive my older 1920 x 1080 monitor without scaling issues?

Yes, the HDMI 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3 outputs both support 1920 x 1080 natively, so legacy panels work at native resolution.
