HP EliteBook 840G1 14" business laptop

This 14.0-inch laptop runs on a 1.60 GHz Intel Core i5 4th Gen processor with 4GB DDR3 memory and a 128GB SSD. Windows 10 Home 64 Bit is pre-installed and activates automatically. The non-touch screen suits office tasks and mobile work.

Suits mobile professionals needing a light Windows

Buyers who want more storage or faster multi-tasking should look elsewhere. The two memory slots support up to 16 GB total, yet only 4GB is fitted today. Wireless is limited to 802.11a/b/g networks.

128GB SSD and 4GB DDR3 decide fit

The single 128GB solid-state drive holds the operating system and a modest file set. 4GB DDR3 across two slots runs everyday apps; heavier workloads will need a memory upgrade before purchase.

Questions about this item

Can the 4 GB DDR3 memory be upgraded later?

Yes, there are two memory slots and the system supports up to 16 GB of DDR3.

What limits sustained performance first under heavy load?

The dual-core 1.60 GHz processor and integrated graphics reach thermal limits before the 128 GB SSD does.

How loud and hot does it get when running all day?

The Li-Ion battery and fan keep the 14" chassis warm but not hot; fan noise stays at a low office hum.
