HP EliteBook 840G1 for everyday office work

This 14-inch laptop runs an Intel Core i5 4th Gen processor at 1.60 GHz with 4GB DDR3 memory and a 500GB SATA hard drive. Windows 10 Home 64 Bit is pre-installed and activates automatically. It suits students or professionals who need a reliable machine for documents, email and web browsing.

4GB memory and 500GB storage capacity

Two memory slots allow an upgrade to 16 GB for smoother multitasking with many browser tabs or larger spreadsheets. The mechanical drive holds the operating system, applications and a moderate file library but will feel slower than solid-state storage when launching programs or booting. Heavy video editing or modern gaming will exceed the integrated graphics and processor headroom.

Fits a mobile workflow with basic connectivity

The chassis includes one USB port and 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN for peripheral and network connections. A built-in webcam supports video calls while the non-touch 14.0-inch screen keeps the form factor compact. The original lithium-ion battery holds a charge for unplugged use and the included AC adapter keeps it powered at a desk.

Questions about this item

Will the 1.60 GHz Intel Core i5 4th Gen work with my existing DDR3 memory modules?

The laptop has two DDR3 slots supporting up to 16 GB total, so your existing DDR3 modules can be added if they match the speed and voltage.

How can I verify the 14" non-touch display and integrated graphics are functioning correctly after first boot?

Open Device Manager to confirm the display adapter appears without errors, then run the Windows calibration tool to check colour and brightness uniformity.

Does the box include a power adapter for the Li-Ion battery, and must I buy an optical drive separately?

An AC adapter is included; there is no optical drive installed, so an external USB DVD drive is needed if you require one.
