ThinkPad T480 14.0" Touch Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen ultrabook built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U quad-core processor running at 1.6 GHz with 6 MB L2 cache. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD, running Windows 10 Pro. The FHD IPS panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution and touch input for professionals who want direct screen interaction in a portable business chassis.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles typical office workloads without a discrete GPU, keeping heat output modest and fan activity low during document editing or video calls. The included OEM AC adapter is rated at 45 W or 65 W, supplying enough headroom for sustained CPU loads while charging the battery. Bluetooth 4.1 and dual-band wireless maintain connectivity without adding measurable thermal load.

Build quality ports and daily implications

The black chassis measures 13.25 x 9.15 x 0.78 inches and weighs approximately 3.6 lbs, meeting Grade A cosmetic standards with only minor blemishes possible. Connectivity includes three USB 3.1 ports, one USB-C port, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet, a front-facing webcam and an SD or MicroSD card slot. Optional fingerprint reader may be present depending on the specific unit received.

Questions about this item

How do I install the DDR4 memory and which slot is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the DDR4 module into the internal SO-DIMM slot at an angle, then press down until it clicks; the second slot is soldered and cannot be upgraded.

What part will need replacement first and when?

The internal battery typically degrades after two to three years of daily charge cycles; it is user-replaceable with a Phillips screwdriver.

What thermal limit appears first during a long compile or render?

The Intel Core i5-8250U hits its 15 W power ceiling and throttles clock speeds once the cooling system saturates under sustained multi-core load.
