Portable workstation with quad-core i7

The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 or T490 ultrabook ships with an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor running at 1.8 GHz and 32 GB of DDR4 memory. A 14.0 inch FHD IPS touchscreen at 1920 x 1080 resolution handles daily office workloads and light content creation. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the display and external monitors via HDMI. The 512 GB SSD provides the operating system and application storage.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and the unit includes a 45 W or 65 W OEM AC adapter for charging. The compact chassis dissipates heat from the 15 W U-series processor during typical productivity tasks without loud fan activity. Integrated graphics keep power draw modest compared with discrete GPU designs. Grade A cosmetic condition means the exterior shows minimal wear while all components have passed functional testing.

Single specification that decides fit

The 512 GB SSD capacity determines whether this unit suits your storage needs; larger media libraries or virtual-machine images may require external drives. Buyers who need more internal storage should look for a 1 TB configuration. The soldered 32 GB DDR4 memory cannot be upgraded, so users anticipating heavier multitasking workloads must verify this ceiling before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 512 GB SSD in the T480 or T490 and what step is often missed?

The 512 GB SSD uses an M.2 slot supporting SATA or NVME; the step often missed is securing the drive with the tiny retention screw after insertion.

What maintenance or replacement will the 32 GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 32 GB DDR4 is soldered and not user-replaceable; no memory maintenance is required, but the internal CMOS battery may need replacement after several years.

What limit appears first on the Intel UHD Graphics 620 during sustained heavy workloads?

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and thermal budget with the i7-8550U, so thermal throttling under sustained load is the first limiting factor.
