What this card adds

This PCIe expansion card adds one USB 3.1 Type-C port and one USB 3.0 Type-A port to a desktop computer. It targets users whose motherboard lacks a front-panel Type-C header or rear Type-C connector. The card fits any standard PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot.

The chip that drives it

A VL805 controller manages both ports and provides a 5 Gbps signalling rate per port. This single-chip design keeps latency low and ensures stable operation with external SSDs, flash drives and mobile devices. The card is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 peripherals.

Capacity and headroom

Two simultaneous 5 Gbps ports handle typical external SSD transfers and phone backups without bottleneck. Bandwidth is shared across the single PCIe x1 lane, so sustained writes to both drives at once will saturate the link. The card does not supply auxiliary power for high-draw devices.

Questions about this item

What does the 5Gbps figure mean when the card is installed in a real desktop?

The card delivers up to 5Gbps bandwidth shared between the Type-C and Type-A ports for external SSDs, flash drives or mobile devices.

Which PCIe slot standard does the x1 connector use and what does that limit?

It fits any PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot and runs at the speed of the single lane provided by the motherboard.

What bracket and clearance does the card need to mount in a standard case?

A standard PCI bracket is supplied, so the card occupies one full-height expansion slot at the rear of the chassis.
