Purpose-built in-wall Wi-Fi 7 access point

The Ubiquiti U7-IW mounts directly into a standard wall box and delivers Wi-Fi 7 connectivity for hospitality and multi-dwelling units. It supports over two hundred simultaneous clients across an indoor coverage area of 115 m². Integrated 2.5 GbE PoE switching simplifies cabling by powering the access point and one downstream device from a single uplink.

Deciding specification — integrated 2.5 GbE PoE

The built-in switch provides one PoE+ input for the uplink and one PoE output to power a phone, camera or second access point without extra injectors. This single feature determines whether the U7-IW fits a retrofit where only one Ethernet drop exists behind the wall plate.

Capacity and headroom

The radio handles up to 200+ connected devices and covers 115 m² with 2×2 MU-MIMO on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Maximum throughput reaches 4.3 Gbps on Wi-Fi 7 and 2.4 Gbps on Wi-Fi 6. The unit draws 13 W excluding PoE output, so the upstream PoE+ budget must cover both the access point and any attached device.

Questions about this item

How does the 4.3 Gbps peak Wi-Fi 7 rate translate to real-world throughput?

The 4.3 Gbps figure is the maximum PHY rate under ideal conditions using 240 MHz channels and two spatial streams; actual throughput will be lower due to overhead, interference and client capabilities.

What does the integrated 2.5 GbE PoE switch limit in practice?

The single 2.5 GbE uplink caps total wired and wireless traffic to 2.5 Gbps, and the PoE output shares the 13 W power budget with the access point itself.

Will this unit fit a standard UK single-gang back box?

The access point measures 137 x 98.7 x 30.2 mm and includes mounting accessories designed for in-wall installation in standard cavity boxes.
