High-capacity desktop storage

The Western Digital My Book provides 12TB of space in a black desktop enclosure. It connects through a USB 3.0 Micro-B port and is backward compatible with USB 2.0. The drive ships formatted exFAT for immediate use with Windows 10+ and macOS 11+.

Upgrade from smaller or portable drives

Moving to this 12TB unit replaces multiple lower-capacity externals or a filled portable drive. The jump is worth it when a single, always-connected volume simplifies backups and media libraries. An included AC adapter powers the desktop mechanism.

Suits users needing local bulk backup

This drive fits Windows and Mac owners who want automated backup software and hardware encryption with password protection. It is not for buyers who need bus-powered portability, faster transfer speeds than USB 3.0 provides, or internal installation.

Questions about this item

What are the exact dimensions of the My Book 12TB desktop drive so I can check shelf fit?

The drive measures 6.72 inches deep, 1.93 inches wide and 5.48 inches high, weighing 2.14 lbs.

Does the USB 3.0 Micro-B cable plug straight into a standard USB-A port on my PC?

Yes, the included SuperSpeed USB-A cable connects the Micro-B port on the drive to a USB-A port; the drive also works with USB 2.0 ports at lower speed.

Will I need to replace the external power adapter or the drive itself after a few years?

The unit ships with a dedicated AC adapter; the internal 12TB drive is not user-serviceable, so any drive failure would require replacing the whole enclosure.
