6TB desktop external hard drive

The Western Digital My Book WDBBGB0060HBK-NESN provides 6TB of storage in a black desktop enclosure. It connects via a USB 3.0 Micro-B interface and includes a SuperSpeed USB-A cable and AC adapter. The drive arrives formatted exFAT for immediate use with Windows 10+ and macOS 11+.

Suits local backup; not for portable

This drive suits users who need high-capacity local backup with included software and hardware encryption. It requires an AC power outlet, so it is not suitable for portable workflows or situations where bus power is essential. Buyers needing rugged transport or silent solid-state speed should consider a different form factor.

USB 3.0 Micro-B interface with AC power

The single specification that decides fit is the USB 3.0 Micro-B interface combined with mandatory AC adapter power. Verify that your host has a compatible USB-A port and that a power socket is available at the intended desk location.

Questions about this item

How long can the 6TB My Book run continuously before the AC adapter becomes the limiting factor?

The desktop drive requires the supplied AC adapter for operation; without it the USB 3.0 port cannot deliver enough power for sustained use.

What are the noise, heat and power characteristics during continuous all-day operation?

The drive uses a standard 3.5-inch mechanism inside a vented enclosure with an external AC adapter, so heat is dissipated through the chassis and the adapter handles power conversion outside the drive body.

Which operating system version must already be installed for the drive to work out of the box?

The drive ships formatted exFAT and is ready for Windows 10+ or macOS 11+ without reformatting.
