6TB USB-C Portable Drive

The Western Digital My Passport WDBY3J0060BGY-WESN is a 6TB portable hard drive with a Silicon Grey enclosure. It connects via a USB-C interface that operates at USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 3.0 speeds. The drive is formatted exFAT for immediate use with Windows 10+, macOS 11+ and ChromeOS. A USB-A cable and USB-A to USB-C adapter are included in the box.

Suited for multi-device users.

This drive suits people who move files between Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, gaming consoles, phones and tablets without carrying separate cables. The supplied adapter and cable cover both USB-C and USB-A ports. Buyers who need the higher throughput of USB 3.2 Gen 2 should consider other options, as this unit is limited to Gen 1 speeds. It also lacks a ruggedised casing for extreme environments.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface speed

The single specification that decides fit is the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, which delivers up to 5Gbps transfer rates. This determines how quickly large libraries of photos, videos or game files move to and from the drive. If your workflow demands faster sustained throughput, this interface will be the bottleneck. For general backup and everyday file transport, the Gen 1 link is adequate.
