Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

This drive suits users who need up to 6TB of portable capacity for photos, videos, music and documents on Windows 10+, ChromeOS, or macOS 11+ with a reformatted NTFS driver. It is not suited for buyers who require an internal drive form factor, a desktop drive that needs external power, or a ruggedised model with IP-rated water and dust resistance.

Deciding Specification

The single specification that decides fit is the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, which delivers up to 5Gbps transfer speed and determines whether the drive matches the host port performance the buyer expects.

Questions about this item

What real-world speed does the USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface deliver on this 6TB drive?

The SuperSpeed USB-A cable runs at 5Gbps, so large file transfers hit the bus ceiling rather than the drive ceiling.

Will the 0.81-inch thick chassis fit in a standard laptop bag pocket?

At 0.81 by 2.95 by 4.22 inches and 0.46 lb it slides into most slim sleeves and jacket pockets.

What is the first step after plugging in the drive on a Mac running macOS 11 or later?

Download the NTFS driver and reformat the drive before you can read or write files.
