WD My Passport 2TB portable storage

The WD My Passport WDBYVG0020BBL-WESN is a 2TB portable hard drive with a slim blue enclosure and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface. It arrives formatted NTFS for Windows 10 and 8.1 and includes WD Discovery software for backup, password protection and drive management. The drive uses 256-bit AES hardware encryption to secure data.

Sustained transfer on USB 3.2 Gen 1

Large file transfers run at the steady rate of the USB 3.2 Gen 1 connection rather than a short burst speed. The mechanical drive maintains consistent throughput during extended copies and backups. The SuperSpeed USB cable is also compatible with USB 2.0 ports at reduced speed.

Check your setup before ordering

Verify that your computer has an available USB-A port for the supplied cable. The drive is pre-formatted NTFS so macOS or Linux systems will need reformatting before use. WD Discovery software supports Windows 10 and 8.1; other operating systems may require manual configuration. Buyers who need more than 2TB of capacity should consider a higher-capacity model.

Questions about this item

How warm or noisy does the My Passport 2TB get when it runs all day?

The drive has no fan and spins at standard notebook speeds, so it stays silent and only warm to the touch during continuous use.

What must my computer already have to use the USB 3.2 Gen 1 connection?

A free USB-A port; the included SuperSpeed cable works with USB 3.2 Gen 1 and falls back to USB 2.0 if that is all the host provides.

Will the pre-formatted NTFS volume work straight away on my Windows 8.1 machine?

Yes — it ships formatted NTFS for Windows 10 and 8.1, so it mounts immediately without reformatting.
