Lens tint and filter percentages

Lens color tells you roughly how much blue light is cut. Clear or near-clear lenses filter a modest share and keep colors close to normal, which suits daytime work. Amber and orange lenses filter much more, often more than half of the light in the blue range, and warm everything on the screen, so they suit evening use but not color-critical work such as photo or video editing. Listings that state the filtered share and UV protection are easier to compare than those that only say blue light blocking.

Fit, frame material and prescription use

Fit decides whether you keep them on. Lens widths in the listings run from about 47 to 58 mm; choose by your current frames, and check bridge and temple measurements where given. Lightweight materials such as TR90 nylon or polycarbonate keep weight to a few dozen grams, while metal frames feel sturdier but heavier. Most computer glasses are non-prescription, so if you need correction, look for styles that fit over glasses or ask an optician about a blue light coating. Smart glasses with Bluetooth audio are a different product.

Questions about Blue Light Computer Glasses

Do blue light glasses prevent eye strain?
Evidence is mixed. Some people find tinted lenses more comfortable, but eye strain mostly comes from long sessions, dry eyes, glare and uncorrected vision. Regular breaks, sensible brightness and a proper eye exam matter at least as much as the lenses.
Can I wear them over my prescription glasses?
Only styles made as fit-over or clip-on glasses suit that. Standard computer frames are non-prescription, so people who need correction can ask an optician for lenses with a blue light coating instead.
Will amber lenses change how colors look?
Yes. Amber lenses add a warm tint to everything on the screen, which makes them unsuitable for color-critical work. Clear or lightly tinted lenses change color far less but filter less blue light too.
