Brightness and operating hours decide the panel class

Commercial panels are built to run long daily hours, often rated 16/7 or 24/7, where a living-room TV is not. Brightness is quoted in cd/m2 or nits: around 250 to 350 suits a dim interior and 500 or more suits a bright lobby, while a screen facing out through a window or into direct sun needs a high-brightness model, often 2,500 nits or more. Pick a size by viewing distance, from 43 inches for a corridor to 86 inches for a large room, and a 4K panel for text at close range.

Where the picture comes from: inputs, players and touch

A display needs a source. Some panels have a built-in player, others take an HDMI signal from a signage content player or a plug-in computer module. Touch and collaboration models add a writing surface and a built-in system. Decide how content will be updated, over the network or from a USB stick, then fit a mount or stand and check the weight. For a plain screen, see business display panels.

Questions about Digital Signage and Public Displays

Can I use an ordinary TV as a sign?
For a few hours a day indoors, often yes. But consumer TVs are not rated for continuous running, may not support portrait mounting or remote management, and can suffer from burn-in on static content. Commercial panels are made for that job.
What does nits or cd/m2 mean?
Both measure screen brightness. A higher number stays readable in brighter rooms. Around 350 is fine for typical indoor use, while rooms with large windows call for 500 or more.
Do I need a separate media player?
Only if the display has no built-in player or you need features it lacks. Many commercial panels play content from USB or a network. An external player adds scheduling, multiple zones or remote management, and it connects over HDMI.
