ASUS Vivobook 15 F512DA laptop

The ASUS Vivobook 15 F512DA is a 15.6 inch Full HD laptop powered by a Ryzen 7 3700U quad-core processor with 4MB cache and integrated Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics. It ships with 24GB DDR4 memory and a 2TB SATA SSD running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. The configuration suits home and business users who need a large, responsive solid-state drive and ample memory for multitasking.

Thermals noise and power

The system includes a 45W power supply and a 2-cell 37 WHr battery. The integrated graphics and 4-core processor share the same thermal envelope, so fan activity will vary with sustained workloads such as video playback or document editing. No discrete GPU is present, which helps contain heat and noise during typical office use.

Fingerprint reader and backlit keyboard

A fingerprint security system enables Windows Hello sign-in without typing a password. The backlit keyboard improves visibility in low-light conditions. Connectivity covers 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, plus USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A, USB 3.1 Type-C Gen1, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, a micro SD reader and a headphone/microphone combo jack. A 720p HD webcam handles video calls.

Questions about this item

How do I add more RAM to the Vivobook 15 F512DA and which slot do people forget?

The laptop uses DDR4 SODIMM modules. Remove the bottom screws, lift the cover, and insert the stick into the single SO-DIMM slot at a 30-degree angle until it clicks; the slot is tight against the chassis, so press firmly.

Which parts will need replacement first on the F512DA-IS79?

The 2-cell 37 WHr battery loses capacity after a few hundred charge cycles; the 45 W power adapter can wear at the barrel connector; the 2 TB SATA SSD has a finite write endurance but typically lasts years.

What thermal limit appears first during a long render on the Ryzen 7 3700U?

The 15 W TDP processor hits its 4 GHz turbo briefly, then the shared heat pipe saturates and the Vega 10 graphics throttle to keep the 37 WHr battery from overheating.
