Latitude 5590 for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5590 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen ultrabook built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SSD running Windows 10 Pro. The IPS panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution for clear visuals in office applications.

Upgrade from dual-core or 8 GB systems

Moving from a dual-core laptop or a machine limited to 8 GB RAM gives a noticeable lift in multitasking and responsiveness. The four cores and eight threads handle simultaneous browser tabs, office suites and video calls without stalling. The jump is worth it when your current device struggles with background updates while you work.

Check port needs and display size

Verify that the available ports — USB 3.1 Gen1, USB Type-C with DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA and RJ45 — match your peripherals and dock. The 14.0 inch chassis is smaller than the 15.6 inch variant referenced in some documentation, so confirm the screen size suits your workflow. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 limits gaming and heavy 3D work.

Questions about this item

What clearance does the 14.0" chassis need for the USB Type-C port on the right side?

The 14.8" width and 9.87" depth leave room for a straight or right-angle Type-C cable; keep at least 2 cm clear beside the port so the DisplayPort signal is not strained.

Which screw must be removed first to reach the DDR4 slots?

Loosen the single captive screw under the service-door icon, lift the door, then release the two SODIMM latches — skipping the captive screw is the step most people miss.

When should the 128 GB SSD be replaced?

Replace the drive when SMART health falls below 80 % or write endurance nears the rated limit, then clone the OS to the new SSD before swapping.
