Latitude 5590 for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5590 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen ultrabook built for professionals who need a reliable Windows 11 Pro machine on the move. Its quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U processor reaches 3.60 GHz and pairs with 8 GB of DDR4 memory for everyday productivity.

Sustained workloads on integrated graphics

Under continuous load the Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and thermal headroom with the CPU, so extended rendering or multi-monitor sessions will throttle clock speeds below the 3.60 GHz peak. The dual SSD layout keeps read queues fed, but the 15 watt processor class limits heavy compute duration.

Chassis, ports and daily docking

A 4.19 lb black chassis measuring 14.8 by 9.87 by .9 inches houses HDMI, VGA, RJ45, three USB 3.1 Gen1 ports (one PowerShare), a USB Type-C with DisplayPort alt-mode and optional Thunderbolt, plus an SD slot and audio jack. The Noble wedge lock slot and optional SIM tray support fleet security and mobile broadband.

Questions about this item

How much heat and noise does the quad-core i5-8350U produce when it runs at its 3.60 GHz turbo speed all day?

The i5-8350U is a 15 W ultrabook processor; sustained turbo will warm the chassis and spin the fan, but the thin 14.0-inch design has no published acoustic or thermal figures.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the USB Type-C DisplayPort and the three USB 3.1 Gen1 ports?

You need a USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI cable for video out, and standard USB-A cables for the three USB 3.1 Gen1 ports — one of those ports supports PowerShare for charging devices while the laptop sleeps.

Will the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drive a legacy VGA monitor through the onboard VGA port at 1920 x 1080?

Yes, the UHD 620 supports 1920 x 1080 over the native VGA connector, so older projectors or monitors work without adapters.
