Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor, 16 GB DDR4 memory and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card with 4 GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and combines a 256 GB M.2 drive with a 1 TB SSD for fast, high-capacity storage.

Professionals needing ISV-certified graphics

Engineers, architects and video editors who rely on professional drivers for CAD, BIM or creative applications will benefit from the Quadro P2000 and the UHD 3840 x 2160 IPS touch display with 72% colour gamut. Buyers who want more storage bays, user-upgradeable memory beyond 16 GB or a newer processor generation should consider other configurations.

UHD 3840 x 2160 touch display

The 15.6-inch InfinityEdge panel delivers 3840 x 2160 resolution with multi-touch input and IPS wide-viewing angles, making it the single specification that determines suitability for colour-critical design work and on-screen markup. If a non-touch Full HD panel or an external monitor workflow is preferred, this display adds cost and power draw without benefit.

Questions about this item

How do I install a second M.2 drive in the 256 GB slot and what step do people miss?

Remove the base cover, insert the M.2 drive at an angle into the open slot, secure it with the single screw, then enable the new drive in the BIOS before Windows will recognise it.

Which component will need replacement first under heavy daily use?

The 16 GB DDR4 memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded, so if workloads grow beyond 16 GB the whole mainboard would need to be replaced.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained loads on the i9-8950HK?

The dual-fan cooling reaches its capacity and the processor throttles from 4.80 GHz down toward 2.90 GHz to stay within its thermal envelope.
