Mobile workstation for demanding workflows

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics with 4 GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and 32 GB DDR4 RAM, targeting engineers, designers and analysts who need certified application stability on the move. The silver chassis includes a non-touch FHD IPS panel covering 72 % colour gamut.

Dual-drive storage and graphics headroom

Storage combines a 128 GB M.2 drive with a 1 TB SSD, giving fast boot and ample project space for large assemblies or video timelines. The Quadro P2000 handles professional 3D viewports and GPU-accelerated compute, while the six-core CPU sustains high clocks up to 4.80 GHz under load. Memory is fixed at 32 GB DDR4, so datasets exceeding that capacity will require offloading to external storage.

Upgrade path from older Precision

This unit replaces earlier dual-core or quad-core mobile workstations that struggle with modern simulation and rendering workloads. The jump is worthwhile when ISV certification, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and a 1920 x 1080 IPS display are required daily. Buyers needing more than 32 GB RAM, higher GPU memory or a touchscreen should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

Will the Thunderbolt 3 port work with my older Thunderbolt 2 dock using an adapter?

Yes, Thunderbolt 3 is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 2 devices through a certified adapter; the port uses the USB-C physical connector and supports the required protocol fallback.

How can I confirm the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 is active after installing Windows 11 Pro?

Open Device Manager and verify NVIDIA Quadro P2000 appears under Display adapters; run the NVIDIA Control Panel to see the 4GB GDDR5 video memory and driver version.

Does the package include a second M.2 screw and thermal pad so I can add another NVME drive later?

The box contains the Precision 5530 laptop, a Dell AC adapter, and Windows 11 Pro pre-installed; mounting hardware for an additional M.2 drive is not included.
