Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro P2000 dedicated graphics with 4GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with Windows 11 Pro, 16GB DDR4 RAM and dual storage comprising a 256GB M.2 drive plus a 1TB SSD. The FHD IPS panel delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution with 72% colour gamut coverage in a silver chassis.

Check ports power and OS requirements

Verify that your peripherals match the available I/O: two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port with x4 PCIe lanes and one HDMI 2.0 output. The included Dell AC adapter supplies power; confirm the connector fits your regional mains socket. Ensure your software licences are compatible with Windows 11 Pro and that any external displays support the HDMI 2.0 standard for full resolution.

Upgrades from integrated graphics

This workstation replaces systems relying on integrated graphics or a single slower drive, adding Quadro P2000 professional graphics and a two-drive configuration for larger datasets. The hexa-core i9-8950HK with turbo up to 4.80 GHz and 12MB cache handles multi-threaded workloads that dual-core or quad-core mobile CPUs cannot. Buyers needing Thunderbolt 4, higher refresh-rate panels or more than 32GB memory ceiling should consider newer platforms.

Questions about this item

Does the laptop ship with the 256 GB M.2 and 1 TB SSD already installed, or must I add storage myself?

The workstation arrives with both the 256 GB M.2 drive and the 1 TB SSD fitted, so no extra storage purchase is required.

Should I pick the 16 GB DDR4 configuration or upgrade to the 32 GB DDR4 option mentioned in the highlights?

The unit listed here includes 16 GB DDR4; if your workloads need more memory you would choose a configuration that specifies 32 GB DDR4 instead.

What does the 4.80 GHz Turbo Boost figure mean for everyday performance with the i9-8950HK?

The six-core i9-8950HK runs at a 2.90 GHz base clock and can reach 4.80 GHz on Turbo Boost when thermal headroom allows, giving short bursts of higher speed for demanding tasks.
