Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with a 2.90 GHz base clock and 4.80 GHz turbo frequency. It carries 32 GB of DDR4 memory and dual storage comprising a 1 TB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD. The NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card provides 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory for professional applications. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suited for ISV-certified workloads

This configuration suits engineers, designers and analysts who need certified drivers for CAD, CAE and 3D modelling software on a portable platform. The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut for colour-critical review. Buyers who require a touchscreen, a higher refresh-rate display or more than 32 GB of memory should look at other models. The non-touch FHD screen and fixed memory ceiling limit those use cases.

Straightforward deployment

The laptop arrives with Windows 10 Pro already installed and a Dell AC adapter in the box, so initial setup is limited to user-account creation and driver updates. Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports handle docks and peripherals without adapters. The dual-fan thermal design manages heat under sustained loads, though the slim chassis can become warm during extended render sessions.

Questions about this item

Does the Precision 5530 need a Thunderbolt dock or hub to connect external displays and peripherals?

The laptop includes one Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI 2.0 and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, so a dock is optional but adds more connections.

Will the i9-8950HK and Quadro P2000 work with older SATA SSDs I already own?

The system uses M.2 PCIe NVME and SATA slots; existing SATA drives can be used if a compatible caddy or adapter is fitted.

How can I confirm the 32 GB DDR4 and dual storage are recognised after first boot?

Open Task Manager Performance tab to see 32 GB DDR4, then check Disk Management for both the 1 TB M.2 and 2 TB SSD volumes.
