Mobile workstation for demanding workflows

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch UHD touchscreen laptop built for professionals who need certified graphics and six-core processing in a portable silver chassis. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and 16 GB of DDR4 memory, ready for complex 3D modelling, video editing or data analysis tasks.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 connectivity limits

A single Thunderbolt 3 port provides x4 PCIe bandwidth for external GPUs or high-speed storage, while HDMI 2.0 caps external 4K output at 60 Hz. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports handle peripherals, but the platform lacks newer USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 speeds for the fastest modern docks.

3 TB total storage with 16 GB RAM ceiling

Dual drives give 1 TB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD capacity, offering ample room for large project files and asset libraries. Memory is fixed at 16 GB DDR4 with a platform maximum of 32 GB, so buyers who need more than 32 GB for massive datasets or virtualisation stacks must choose a different system.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 1TB M.2 plus 2TB SSD configuration or a smaller drive option?

This unit ships with a 1TB M.2 drive and a 2TB SSD already installed, giving 3TB total capacity. The supplier notes other builds offer 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB M.2 choices, but this specific listing is fixed at the larger pairing.

What does the 4.80 GHz turbo figure mean when I am rendering or compiling?

The six-core i9-8950HK runs at 2.90 GHz base and can reach 4.80 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost when thermals allow, so heavy multi-threaded workloads see higher clocks for short bursts before the dual-fan cooling settles to a sustained level.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually cap at for external storage or displays?

The single Thunderbolt 3 connection provides four lanes of PCIe plus DisplayPort, so an NVME RAID enclosure can saturate near 40 Gbps while an external 4K monitor at 60 Hz runs over the same cable alongside data traffic.
