Mobile workstation for creative professionals

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch UHD touchscreen laptop built for engineers and designers who need certified graphics and colour accuracy on the move. It combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with 32 GB DDR4 memory and an NVIDIA Quadro P2000 GPU with 4 GB GDDR5 video memory. Dual storage provides a 256 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD for large project files. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 connectivity limits

The workstation offers two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port and one HDMI 2.0 output for external displays and peripherals. Thunderbolt 3 carries PCIe and DisplayPort signals over USB-C, but cable length and daisy-chain limits are defined by the Thunderbolt specification, not by this laptop. HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at 60 Hz; higher refresh rates or resolutions require a different interface. The 72 % colour gamut panel covers standard sRGB workflows but not wider gamuts such as Adobe RGB.

Check power, dock and display requirements before

The included Dell AC adapter matches the system's original power draw; verify the connector and wattage suit your workspace or travel kit. If you plan to drive multiple 4K monitors, confirm your dock or multi-stream adapter supports the required bandwidth over the single Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports. Touchscreen drivers are included with Windows 10 Pro; ensure any specialised stylus or calibration software you rely on is compatible with this OS version.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 256 GB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD configuration or a larger single drive?

The 256 GB M.2 plus 2 TB SSD layout gives a fast boot volume and a large secondary volume for project files without sacrificing the 32 GB DDR4 memory ceiling.

What does the 4.80 GHz turbo speed mean when the i9-8950HK is under sustained load?

The six-core i9-8950HK can reach 4.80 GHz on single-thread bursts; under continuous multi-core work it will settle at lower clocks limited by the dual-fan thermal design.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port cap at for external GPU or storage bandwidth?

Thunderbolt 3 provides four lanes of PCIe, so external GPUs or NVME arrays are limited to that x4 link rather than the full x16 internal bandwidth.
