Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It carries 16GB of DDR4 memory and dual storage comprising a 1TB M.2 drive plus a 2TB SSD. Graphics are handled by a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4GB of GDDR5 video memory. The system ships with Windows 10 Pro installed.

Suited for ISV-certified apps.

This configuration suits engineers and designers who run ISV-certified applications and need professional graphics in a thin silver chassis. The 15.6 inch FHD IPS panel covers 72% color gamut and does not support touch input. Buyers who require a larger display, a touchscreen, or higher storage capacities should look at other models.

Quadro P2000 4GB GDDR5 drives professional 3D

The single specification that decides fit is the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4GB GDDR5. It provides certified driver support for CAD, DCC and visualization software that consumer GPUs cannot guarantee. If your workflow depends on that certification, this unit meets the requirement; if you need more video memory or a newer architecture, a different graphics option is necessary.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1TB M.2 plus 2TB SSD configuration or a smaller drive option?

This unit ships with both a 1TB M.2 drive and a 2TB SSD installed, giving 3TB total capacity. Smaller configurations such as 128GB, 256GB or 512GB are offered on other builds, but this specific model already includes the larger dual-drive setup.

What does the i9-8950HK 2.90 GHz up to 4.80 GHz spec mean for daily workloads?

The six-core processor runs at 2.90 GHz base and can boost to 4.80 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost, so heavy tasks like rendering or compilation get short bursts of higher speed while lighter work stays at the base frequency.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port support in practice?

The Thunderbolt 3 port provides x4 PCIe bandwidth for fast external storage and drives external displays via the HDMI 2.0 connection.
