Mobile workstation for CAD and simulation

The DELL Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch FHD laptop built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor running at 2.20 GHz with Turbo up to 4.10 GHz. It ships with 64 GB DDR4 memory and a 2 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 is optimised for computer-aided design workloads.

Thermal design and power profile

Revolutionary thermals keep the hexa-core CPU and dedicated GPU stable during sustained professional loads. The 6 GB GDDR5 video memory and 64 GB system memory operate within the chassis without throttling under typical CAD sessions. Windows 11 Pro manages power states across the 6 cores and 12 threads for balanced acoustic output.

Connectivity and included accessories

Two Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI 2.0 output and a headphone/microphone combo jack support multi-display and peripheral setups. A Dell AC adapter is included in the box. The 72 % colour gamut IPS panel covers standard office viewing requirements.

Questions about this item

How is the 2TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD installed, and which step do people get wrong?

The drive slots into the M.2 connector at an angle and is secured with a single screw; the common mistake is forgetting to reinstall the thermal pad that sits between the controller and the chassis.

What maintenance or replacement will the 64GB DDR4 RAM need later?

The memory is soldered to the motherboard, so it cannot be upgraded or replaced separately; if a module fails the entire board must be serviced.

What limit appears first on the Quadro P3200 6GB GDDR5 under sustained load?

The 6GB frame buffer fills before the GPU core saturates, forcing texture streaming to system memory and dropping frame rates in large assemblies.
