Mobile workstation for CAD and rendering

The Dell Precision 7730 pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 GPU. Dual NVMe storage combines a 512 GB drive with a 2 TB drive for fast project access. The 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut and runs Windows 11 Pro out of the box.

Sustained workload thermal behaviour

Professional-grade graphics and hexa-core CPU performance are tuned for extended CAD sessions rather than short bursts. The cooling design targets stable clocks during long renders and simulation runs. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 outputs maintain signal integrity when external displays are driven continuously.

Chassis connectivity and daily use

Silver chassis houses two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI 2.0 and a headset jack for dock-free desk setups. Non-touch IPS display avoids fingerprint smudges during review work. Included AC adapter powers the 6-core CPU and Quadro P3200 without needing extra cables. Not suited for buyers who need a touchscreen or a lighter ultraportable form factor.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Precision 7730 get when the i7-8750H runs at 4.10 GHz all day?

The six-core i7-8750H reaches 4.10 GHz turbo, and Dell describes the cooling as revolutionary thermals designed for sustained professional workloads.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports on this 7730?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port and a standard HDMI 2.0 cable for the full-size HDMI output.

Will the Quadro P3200 6GB GDDR5 work with my older 1080p monitors that only have DVI or VGA inputs?

The HDMI 2.0 port drives 1080p directly; for DVI or VGA you add a passive HDMI-to-DVI cable or an active HDMI-to-VGA adapter.
