ThinkPad T490 business laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5 8th Gen processor with four cores running at 1.60 GHz up to 4.1 GHz. It comes with 24 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SATA SSD, running Windows 10 Pro on a 1366 x 768 HD display with Intel UHD integrated graphics.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This configuration suits professionals who need a lightweight chassis with a full set of legacy and modern ports including HDMI, Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Type-C and a micro SD reader. Buyers who require a higher resolution panel or discrete graphics for intensive visual work should consider other models.

Simple deployment with soldered memory limit

The system arrives ready to use with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed and a 65 W power supply. The 24 GB memory combines 8 GB soldered on the motherboard with a 16 GB SODIMM, so total capacity cannot be increased beyond this configuration.

Questions about this item

Does the 24GB DDR4 memory require an open SODIMM slot on the motherboard?

The 24GB configuration uses 8GB soldered onboard plus a 16GB SODIMM module already installed, so no additional slot is needed.

Will the Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port work with my older USB 3.0 Type-A peripherals?

Thunderbolt 3 uses a USB-C connector; a USB-C to USB-A adapter or cable is required to connect legacy USB 3.0 Type-A devices.

How can I verify the 256GB SATA SSD is recognised at full capacity after first boot?

Open Windows Disk Management or File Explorer; the drive should show approximately 256GB total capacity and appear as a single healthy partition.
