Business-ready ThinkPad T490

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for office and mobile professionals. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and a quad-core Intel Core i5-8265U processor that reaches 4.1 GHz. Integrated Intel UHD graphics handle everyday visual tasks. The black chassis includes a fingerprint reader and 720p webcam for secure sign-in and video calls.

12 GB DDR4 and 1 TB SATA headroom

Twelve gigabytes of DDR4 memory (8 GB soldered plus a 4 GB SO-DIMM) keep multiple browser tabs, Office apps and light virtual machines running smoothly. The 1 TB SATA SSD offers ample space for documents and local backups while delivering solid-state responsiveness. Heavy video editing or large CAD datasets will exceed the integrated graphics and memory ceiling.

Upgrade from older 8 GB dual-core ultraportables

This configuration replaces ageing 13- or 14-inch laptops limited to 8 GB of soldered RAM and slower SATA hard drives. The jump is worth it when you need the extra 4 GB module, the 1 TB SSD capacity and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity for docks or external GPUs. Buyers who need user-replaceable memory banks or a higher-resolution display should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the Thunderbolt 3 port work with my older USB-C dock that only supports USB 3.1?

Yes, the Thunderbolt 3 port is backward compatible with USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C devices, so your existing dock will function at USB 3.1 speeds.

How can I confirm the 12 GB DDR4 memory is running in dual-channel mode after setup?

Open Task Manager, go to the Performance tab, select Memory and check that "Slots used" shows 2 of 2 and the speed reads DDR4.

Does the box include the 65 W power adapter or do I need to buy it separately?

The 65 W power adapter is included in the box along with the laptop; no separate purchase is required.
