50 ft Toslink optical cable for multi-channel audio

This LUOM T001A cable carries digital audio between devices with Toslink ports over a 50 ft run. It supports uncompressed PCM and compressed 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround formats including Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. The male-to-male connectors fit sound bars, TVs, game consoles and home-theatre receivers.

Practical limits of Toslink optical links

Plastic fibre optical cables are intended for short-range signal transmission and attenuation increases with length. At 50 ft the link remains within typical consumer specifications but may not suit very long installations or professional studio runs. The square connector keying prevents misalignment but requires a clear line of sight into the port.

Braided nylon jacket and gold-plated metal plugs

A double braided nylon sleeve protects the 2.2 mm and 5.0 mm diameter fibre core from kinks and abrasion during routing. The 24K gold-plated metal connector housings resist corrosion and maintain conductivity over repeated insertions. The slim metal case design eases insertion into recessed ports on sound bars, TVs and consoles.

Questions about this item

Which length should I choose for my setup?

The cable is supplied in a single 50 ft length, so the only choice is whether that distance suits the gap between your source and receiver.

What surround formats does the cable actually pass through?

It carries uncompressed PCM and compressed 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 signals such as Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD, ADAT and LPCM without conversion.

Does the Toslink interface limit the audio quality I hear?

The optical S/PDIF link supports the listed multi-channel formats but cannot carry higher-bandwidth codecs such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio.
