Mobile workstation for intensive workloads

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It targets professionals who need workstation-class compute and graphics in a portable silver chassis. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed and includes a Dell AC adapter.

Storage capacity and memory headroom

Dual storage combines a 1TB M.2 drive with a 2TB SSD, providing three terabytes of solid-state capacity for large project files and datasets. The 16GB DDR4 memory handles multitasking across engineering or creative applications, while the platform supports expansion up to 32GB when workloads grow beyond the factory configuration.

Professional graphics and connectivity bundle

The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4GB GDDR5 accelerates certified professional applications and drives external displays through HDMI 2.0. Thunderbolt 3 adds high-speed peripheral support and display output, while two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports cover standard accessories. A 72% colour-gamut IPS panel and integrated webcam complete the creator-focused package.

Questions about this item

Will the Thunderbolt 3 port work with my existing Thunderbolt 2 dock using an adapter?

The Thunderbolt 3 port uses a USB-C connector and provides x4 PCIe lanes, so it is electrically compatible with Thunderbolt 2 devices through a certified adapter, though the link will run at the older 20 Gbps speed.

How can I confirm the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4GB GDDR5 is active after installing drivers?

Open NVIDIA Control Panel or Device Manager; the Quadro P2000 should appear as the primary display adapter with 4 GB dedicated video memory, and the Dell Precision Optimizer utility will report the GPU status as certified for ISV applications.

Does the box include both the 1TB M.2 and 2TB SSD already installed, or do I need to add one myself?

The system ships with both drives factory-installed — a 1 TB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD — totalling 3 TB of storage, so no additional drive purchase is required. The Dell AC adapter is also included.
