Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and dual storage comprising a 512 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory handles professional graphics workloads. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed.

Installation and common issues

The system arrives fully assembled with the operating system already configured, so no internal hardware installation is required. Users only need to connect the included AC adapter and complete the standard Windows 11 Pro setup process. Driver updates for the Quadro P2000 and Thunderbolt controller should be applied after first boot to ensure stability. The non-touch IPS display requires no calibration for general use.

Suitable users and alternatives

This workstation suits engineers, designers and analysts who need certified professional graphics in a 15.6-inch chassis with a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. The 72% colour gamut covers standard office and CAD workflows. Buyers who require a touchscreen, a wider colour space or more than 16 GB of memory should consider other configurations. The single Thunderbolt 3 port may limit users needing multiple high-speed external peripherals.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 4GB GDDR5 is active after installing drivers?

Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters and verify NVIDIA Quadro P2000 appears; then run NVIDIA Control Panel to see the 4GB GDDR5 video memory reported.

The title lists 512GB M.2 plus 2TB SSD — are both drives already installed or must I add one?

Both drives are factory-installed: a 512GB M.2 and a separate 2TB SSD, giving dual storage with no extra purchase required.

Should I choose the 16GB DDR4 configuration or upgrade to 32GB DDR4 for the i9-8950HK?
