Mobile workstation for creators

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It pairs 32 GB of DDR4 memory with dual storage comprising a 512 GB M.2 drive and a 2 TB SSD. An NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory drives the 1920 x 1080 IPS display. The system ships with Windows 10 Pro installed.

Thermals and power in daily use

The cooling design uses dual fans to improve airflow and keep the chassis cool under sustained workloads. The 8950HK processor runs at a 2.90 GHz base frequency and can reach 4.80 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports handle external displays and peripherals without adding internal thermal load.

Bundled accessories and software impact

The included Dell AC adapter powers the system and charges the battery through the Thunderbolt 3 connection. Windows 10 Pro provides the operating environment for professional applications. Connectivity options include two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a headphone and microphone combo jack, and integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No additional software bundles are detailed in the specification.

Questions about this item

How do I install an additional M.2 drive and which slot do people often confuse?

The Precision 5530 has one M.2 slot already occupied by the 512 GB boot drive. Adding a second M.2 drive is not possible because the 2 TB SSD uses the 2.5-inch bay.

What maintenance or replacement will the Quadro P2000 4 GB GDDR5 need later?

The GPU is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced. Maintenance is limited to cleaning the dual-fan heatsink and renewing thermal paste when temperatures rise.

What limit appears first during a long render on the i9-8950HK at 4.80 GHz turbo?

The dual-fan cooling system reaches its thermal capacity first, causing the six-core processor to throttle below its 4.80 GHz maximum turbo frequency.
