Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with 16 GB of DDR4 memory. It carries a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory and ships with Windows 11 Pro. The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel covers 72% colour gamut for colour-accurate work.

Sustained load thermals and graphics

Dual fans move air through the chassis to keep temperatures in check during long rendering or simulation sessions. The Quadro P2000 delivers certified driver stability for professional 3D applications rather than short-burst gaming clocks. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports maintain full bandwidth for external displays while the system is under continuous load.

Upgrade path from dual-drive SATA configurations

This unit combines a 256 GB M.2 drive with a 2 TB SSD, replacing setups that rely on a single SATA SSD or smaller PCIe boot drive. The jump is worthwhile when local project libraries exceed 512 GB and you need both fast boot and high-capacity scratch space without external enclosures. Buyers who need more than 32 GB of memory or a newer GPU architecture should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How loud do the dual fans get and how hot does the i9-8950HK run under sustained load?

The Precision 5530 uses a dual-fan thermal design intended to improve airflow and keep the system cool during extended workloads on the 6-core i9-8950HK.

Which ports and cables do I need to connect my existing monitors and peripherals?

It provides 2x USB 3.1 Gen 1, 1x Thunderbolt 3, 1x HDMI 2.0 and a headphone/microphone combo jack for external displays and accessories.

Can the 256 GB M.2 drive and 2 TB SSD coexist with my older SATA drives if I move them over?

The laptop already ships with a 256 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB SSD, and the platform supports SATA and NVME M.2 storage, so existing SATA drives can be used in compatible enclosures.
