Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel six-core i9-8950HK processor running at 2.90 GHz with turbo up to 4.80 GHz. It pairs 16 GB of DDR4 memory with dual storage: a 256 GB M.2 drive and a 4 TB SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory drives the 1920 x 1080 IPS display. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suited for CAD and 3D workflows on the move

Engineers and designers who need certified professional graphics in a thin silver chassis will benefit from the Quadro P2000 and the 72 % color gamut panel. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 support external displays and fast peripherals. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a larger colour volume should look at other models, as this unit has a non-touch FHD screen with 72 % gamut coverage.

Deciding spec: 4 TB total SSD capacity

The combined 256 GB M.2 plus 4 TB SSD gives a single-drive feel with very high capacity for large project files and datasets. If your workflow demands more than 4 TB of internal solid-state storage, this configuration will not be sufficient.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 256 GB M.2 plus 4 TB SSD configuration or a smaller drive option?

The listed unit ships with a 256 GB M.2 drive and a 4 TB SSD, giving you a fast boot volume and a very large secondary volume in one chassis.

What does the 2.90 GHz base clock with 4.80 GHz turbo mean for daily engineering workloads?

The six-core i9-8950HK runs at 2.90 GHz and can boost to 4.80 GHz, so heavy CAD or simulation tasks get high single-thread speed when thermal headroom allows.

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port actually let me connect?

The Thunderbolt 3 port carries four PCIe lanes and HDMI 2.0 signalling, so you can drive external GPUs, high-speed storage arrays or 4K displays from one cable.
