Mobile workstation for engineering

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor. It carries 64 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive arrangement of 256 GB plus 1 TB NVMe M.2 SSD storage. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB of GDDR5 video memory drives the 1920 x 1080 IPS display. Windows 11 Pro is installed.

Suited to CAD and simulation users

This configuration suits engineers and designers who run certified CAD, CAE or 3D-modelling applications and need ISV-tested drivers on a large screen. Buyers who want a lighter chassis for frequent travel or who require a higher-colour-gamut panel for colour-critical imaging should look at something else.

Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5

The Quadro P3200 with 6 GB of GDDR5 is the specification that decides fit. It delivers certified driver support for professional 3D workflows and compute tasks that consumer GeForce cards do not guarantee. If your software stack demands a newer GPU architecture or more video memory, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the 64 GB DDR4 memory or the dual 256 GB and 1 TB NVMe SSDs need replacement first?

The 64 GB DDR4 is soldered and not user-replaceable, while both M.2 NVMe drives can be swapped individually if capacity or speed ever becomes a bottleneck.

During long rendering sessions does the 6 GB GDDR5 on the Quadro P3200 or the six-core i7-8750H hit its ceiling first?

The 6 GB GDDR5 frame buffer on the Quadro P3200 fills before the six-core i7-8750H reaches its maximum turbo frequency, so graphics memory is the first limit.

How loud and hot does the 17.3 inch Precision 7730 get when the i7-8750H and Quadro P3200 run flat-out all day?

Dual-fan thermal design keeps chassis temperatures manageable; fan noise rises to an audible but not distracting level under continuous combined CPU and GPU load.
