Mobile workstation for CAD

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor. It carries 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout of 128 GB plus 1 TB NVMe storage. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 handles professional graphics workloads.

Service access and driver setup

The chassis allows internal access to memory and storage slots after removing the base cover. Driver installation follows the standard Windows 11 Pro path with Dell Command Update or the NVIDIA Quadro enterprise branch. Thunderbolt 3 firmware updates occasionally require a specific sequence to avoid enumeration issues on first boot.

Suited for engineering and design

This configuration suits engineers, architects and designers who need certified Quadro drivers for CAD, BIM or simulation packages on a large 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. Buyers who want more storage capacity or higher GPU memory for large assemblies should look at alternatives. Users needing a touchscreen or a lighter ultraportable form factor will not find those features here.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the Intel Core i7-8750H is reaching its 4.10 GHz turbo speed under load?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab or a monitoring tool such as HWInfo while running a demanding task; the CPU clock should show frequencies up to 4.10 GHz on the six cores when thermal headroom allows.

Which cables or adapters are not included for the Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports?

The box contains the Dell AC adapter and the laptop itself; any Thunderbolt 3 cables, HDMI 2.0 cables or USB 3.1 Gen 1 peripherals must be purchased separately.

Should I choose the 128 GB + 1 TB dual-drive layout or a single larger NVMe drive for my workflow?

The 128 GB + 1 TB dual-drive configuration ships installed; it keeps the OS and apps on the faster 128 GB drive while the 1 TB drive stores large project files, so no immediate upgrade is required.
