Mobile workstation for engineers

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor running at 2.20 GHz with Turbo up to 4.10 GHz. It targets engineers, designers and analysts who need certified professional graphics and a colour-accurate display in a portable silver chassis. The system ships with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed and includes a Dell AC adapter.

Dual 1 TB NVMe storage and Thunderbolt 3

The configuration delivers 16 GB of DDR4 memory and dual 1 TB NVMe M.2 solid-state drives for a combined 2 TB of high-speed storage. Connectivity includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI 2.0, a headphone/microphone combo jack plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. These interfaces support fast external storage, multiple 4K displays and docking without using proprietary connectors.

Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 for CAD workloads

The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 memory is optimised for computer-aided design and comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060 in raw throughput. The 17.3 inch FHD IPS panel covers 72 % colour gamut at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Buyers who need higher GPU memory for large assemblies, 10-bit colour panels or ECC system memory should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

Can the 16 GB DDR4 memory be upgraded later?

The platform supports up to 128 GB DDR4, so the installed 16 GB can be expanded by adding compatible modules.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8750H and Quadro P3200 run flat out?

The six-core 8750H at 2.20 GHz up to 4.10 GHz and the 6 GB GDDR5 P3200 share a single cooling assembly; sustained loads will hit the CPU thermal ceiling before the GPU.

How loud and hot does the chassis get during an all-day render?

Dell describes the cooling as revolutionary thermals; the 17.3-inch silver chassis dissipates heat from the 8750H and P3200 through a shared vapour-chamber system that keeps surface temperatures and fan noise lower than previous Precision models.
