ThinkPad T490 with 24GB DDR4

This Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8265U quad-core processor reaching 4.1 GHz turbo. It ships with 24GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD under Windows 10 Pro.

Suits mobile professionals needing 24GB RAM

The 24GB configuration handles multitasking and virtual machines well for office and remote work. Buyers who need a higher-resolution display or discrete graphics for creative workloads should look elsewhere.

1366x768 HD panel limits visual detail

The 14.0-inch screen uses a 1366 x 768 resolution at 60Hz, so text and images lack the sharpness of Full HD or higher panels. Confirm this resolution meets your daily viewing requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 16GB DDR4 SODIMM and what step is often missed?

Insert the module into the empty SODIMM slot at a 45° angle then press down until the side clips click; the step often missed is fully seating the clips so the stick is flat.

Which component will need replacement first and what spec should I match?

The 3-cell 50 WHr battery will degrade first; replace it with a Lenovo 3-cell 50 WHr unit.

What thermal limit appears first during a long compile on the i5-8265U?

The CPU hits its 4.1 GHz turbo ceiling then throttles to 1.60 GHz base once the 50 WHr battery and 65W adapter cannot shed heat fast enough.
