ThinkPad T490 with 24GB DDR4

This 14.0-inch laptop combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8265U processor with 24GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. It suits professionals who need responsive multitasking and fast storage in a compact chassis. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

HD 1366x768 panel limits external display options

The integrated Intel UHD graphics drive the built-in 60Hz LCD at 1366 by 768 and can output to one external monitor via HDMI or Thunderbolt 3. Higher resolutions or multiple high-DPI displays are not supported by this graphics configuration.

Upgraded configuration requires no user assembly

The system arrives with the 16GB SO-DIMM already installed alongside 8GB onboard memory, so no RAM installation is needed. Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C ports share bandwidth; connecting multiple high-speed peripherals simultaneously may reduce throughput.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 24GB RAM version or is 16GB enough?

This unit ships with 24GB DDR4 — 8GB soldered plus a 16GB SO-DIMM — so there is no separate 16GB option to choose.

What does the 4.1 GHz turbo speed actually deliver in daily use?

The quad-core i5-8265U can boost to 4.1 GHz for short bursts, speeding up single-thread tasks like web browsing or spreadsheet calculations before thermals pull it back.

Is the USB-C port Thunderbolt 3 or plain USB 3.1?

One USB-C port supports Thunderbolt 3 for high-speed docks and external GPUs; the second USB-C port runs at USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds.
