ThinkPad T490 14" Touch Ultrabook

The Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is a 14.0 inch FHD touchscreen ultrabook running Windows 11 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor at 1.8GHz with 8MB L2 cache and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. The system includes 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB SSD for storage.

Suits mobile professionals needing pen

This laptop suits users who want a lightweight 3.2 lb chassis with a 1920 x 1080 IPS touch display, 3 x USB 3.1 ports, one USB-C port, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. Buyers who need a discrete graphics card, more than 8GB of RAM, or a larger 15 inch screen should look elsewhere.

Deciding spec: 1TB SSD capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 1TB solid-state drive. It determines whether the available space matches the workload without requiring an immediate upgrade. If the capacity is sufficient, the T490 delivers a quad-core processor and touchscreen in a compact 12.7 x 8.5 x 0.7 inch form factor.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB SSD and what step is often missed?

The 1TB SSD uses an M.2 slot supporting SATA or NVME; the step often missed is confirming which protocol the specific drive requires before fitting it.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; no user maintenance is required, but capacity cannot be increased later.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the i7-8550U with Intel UHD Graphics 620?

Thermal throttling on the quad-core 1.8GHz i7-8550U with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 typically limits sustained performance first.
