Rugged 14 Touchscreen Laptop

The Dell Latitude 5424 is a 14.0-inch fully rugged notebook built to military-grade durability standards for field work. An 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor and 32 GB DDR4 memory run Windows 10 Pro on a 1920 x 1080 FHD display with 10-point touch input that works with gloves.

Field Workers Not Office Users

This machine suits engineers, technicians and first responders who need a computer that survives drops, vibration, dust and direct sunlight. Buyers who want a thin ultrabook for desk use or a lightweight travel laptop should look elsewhere because the rugged chassis adds weight and thickness.

Dual M.2 SSD Storage

The configuration ships with a 512 GB M.2 drive plus a 2 TB M.2 drive, both solid-state, so the operating system and large project files stay on fast flash memory without any mechanical hard drive.

Questions about this item

Does the USB 3.0 interface cap transfer speeds at 5 Gbps in practice?

Yes, the USB 3.0 ports on this Latitude 5424 are limited to the 5 Gbps signalling rate defined by the USB 3.0 standard.

What mounting holes or bracket pattern does the chassis use for vehicle or desk mounts?

The rugged chassis includes the standard Dell Latitude rugged mounting pattern used across the 5424 series for vehicle docks and desk stands.

How is the second M.2 drive installed, and which step do people often miss?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the M.2 module into the empty slot at an angle, press it flat, and secure it with the single screw; the step most often missed is pressing the drive fully flat before tightening the screw.
