Built for harsh environments

The Latitude 5424 Rugged is a 14.0-inch laptop designed to survive drops, vibration and extreme temperatures. Its chassis passes military-grade testing so field technicians, first responders and outdoor engineers can work without babying the hardware. A 10-point touchscreen works even with gloves on.

Thermals and power in normal use

The quad-core i7-8650U runs at up to 4.20 GHz with 8 MB L2 cache while the integrated UHD 620 graphics handle daily workloads. 16 GB DDR4 memory keeps multitasking smooth. Dual M.2 SSDs totalling 512 GB and 2 TB provide fast, silent storage with no moving parts to fail in rough conditions.

Ports and expansion for field work

Connectivity includes USB 3.0, USB Type-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, a serial port and RJ-45 for legacy and industrial gear. Wireless, optional LTE and dedicated GPS keep the machine online away from the office. Internal 6- and 9-cell batteries support full-shift use, and a hot-swap bridge battery lets you change power without shutting down.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 512 GB M.2 and 2 TB M.2 dual SSD drives in the Latitude 5424, and which step is often missed?

Remove the bottom panel, insert each M.2 drive at an angle into its slot, then secure both with the captive screws; the step often missed is pressing each drive fully flat before tightening the screws.

What maintenance will the 14.0 inch FHD touchscreen and 16 GB DDR4 memory need over time?

Clean the touchscreen with a microfibre cloth and approved screen cleaner; the 16 GB DDR4 is soldered and not user-replaceable, so no memory maintenance is required.

At what point does the Intel UHD Graphics 620 become the bottleneck during sustained heavy workloads?

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 hits its thermal and performance ceiling first during prolonged GPU-intensive tasks, limiting frame rates and compute throughput before the CPU or storage saturate.
