Mobile workstation with i9-8950HK and Quadro P2000

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation powered by a 6-core Intel Core i9-8950HK processor and NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics with 4GB GDDR5 memory. It runs Windows 10 Pro on 16GB DDR4 RAM and provides dual storage with a 1TB M.2 drive plus a 4TB SSD. The FHD IPS display delivers 1920 x 1080 resolution at 72% colour gamut in a silver chassis.

Suits engineers and creators needing certified

Professionals who require ISV-certified drivers for CAD, 3D modelling or video editing will benefit from the Quadro P2000 GPU. The six-core i9 CPU handles multi-threaded workloads and the 4TB SSD offers large local project storage. Buyers who need a touchscreen, higher refresh rate display or more than 16GB RAM should consider other configurations.

Thunderbolt 3 port for external GPU and docks

A single Thunderbolt 3 connection provides x4 PCIe bandwidth for external graphics enclosures, high-speed storage arrays or multi-monitor docks. The port also carries HDMI 2.0 video output and USB 3.1 Gen 1 data through compatible adapters. This interface is the primary expansion path because internal upgrade options are limited on this chassis.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Precision 5530 get when the i9-8950HK runs at 4.80 GHz all day?

The cooling system uses dual fans designed to improve airflow and keep the system cool under sustained heavy workloads.

Which cables or docks must I already own to use the Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0 ports on this laptop?

You need a Thunderbolt cable or dock with x4 PCIe lanes and an HDMI 2.0 cable to drive external displays at full capability.

Can the Quadro P2000 with 4GB GDDR5 drive my older 1080p monitors over HDMI 2.0 without adapters?

Yes, the HDMI 2.0 port connects directly to the dedicated Quadro P2000 and supports 1920 x 1080 resolution natively.
