Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch UHD touch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified graphics and a colour-accurate display in a thin chassis. It suits engineers, designers and analysts running CAD, simulation or video workloads on Windows 10 Pro. Buyers who need a larger screen, more than 32 GB of memory or a newer processor generation should look elsewhere.

Sustained load behaviour

The six-core Intel Core i9-8950HK runs at 2.90 GHz base and can reach 4.80 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, while the dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB GDDR5 memory handles professional GPU tasks. Dual-storage configuration combines a 256 GB M.2 drive and a 1 TB SSD for fast project access. The cooling system uses dual fans to maintain airflow during extended rendering or compute sessions.

Thermals noise and power

Dual fans are engineered to improve airflow and keep the system cool under continuous load, reducing thermal throttling during long work periods. The 72 % colour-gamut IPS panel delivers accurate visuals without excessive backlight power draw. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports support external displays and peripherals while the included AC adapter supplies power for typical office and field use.

Questions about this item

How hot and loud does the i9-8950HK run under sustained load?

The Precision 5530 uses a dual-fan thermal design built to move more air and keep the six-core i9-8950HK cool during long rendering or simulation sessions.

Which cables or docks do I need to drive external monitors from the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports?

Connect a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for up to two 4K displays, or use an HDMI 2.0 cable for a single 4K screen at 60 Hz.

Will my existing SATA SSDs work alongside the factory 256 GB M.2 and 1 TB drives?

The laptop ships with both M.2 slots populated, so there is no internal bay left for a 2.5-inch SATA drive without removing one of the installed SSDs.
